Why Spare Parts Matter for Access Equipment

Access platforms work in demanding environments where reliability and safety are critical. When a key component fails, downtime can quickly become expensive — delaying projects and impacting productivity.

Keeping essential access platform spare parts available can help reduce disruption and ensure your machines stay operational when they’re needed most.

At IPS Ireland, we supply genuine spare parts for a wide range of access equipment, with fast delivery and expert support when you need it.

Here are five of the most important spare parts every access platform owner should consider keeping on hand.

1. Tyres

Tyres are one of the most frequently replaced components on access platforms, particularly on scissor lifts and boom lifts operating on rough surfaces or construction sites.

Over time tyres can suffer from:

  • Cuts or punctures
  • Excessive wear
  • Reduced traction
  • Sidewall damage

Keeping replacement tyres available can help minimise downtime when damage occurs.

IPS Ireland supplies replacement tyres for a wide range of access platform models, including non-marking options suitable for indoor environments.

2. Emergency Stop Buttons

Emergency stop buttons are critical safety components designed to immediately shut down machine operation in hazardous situations.

Because they are used frequently and exposed to tough working conditions, these switches can become damaged or worn over time.

Having spare emergency stop buttons available ensures you can quickly restore safe operation if one fails.

3. Control Box Components

The control box is the operator’s primary interface with the machine. Components such as joysticks, switches, and control panels can occasionally become damaged through regular use or accidental impact.

Keeping replacement control components on hand can help avoid unnecessary delays when repairs are needed.

IPS Ireland can supply control box parts for many popular access platform manufacturers.

4. Batteries and Chargers

Electric access platforms rely heavily on their battery systems. Over time, batteries naturally lose capacity and performance, particularly if they are frequently discharged or exposed to harsh conditions.

Common signs a battery may need replacement include:

  • Reduced operating time
  • Difficulty holding charge
  • Slow machine performance

Maintaining spare batteries or chargers can help keep electric machines operating efficiently.

5. Hydraulic Components

Hydraulic systems are essential for lifting and stabilising access platforms. Components such as hoses, fittings, valves, and seals can occasionally wear out or fail under pressure.

Hydraulic leaks or faults can quickly take a machine out of service, so having replacement components readily available can significantly reduce downtime.

IPS Ireland provides access to a wide range of hydraulic components suitable for many types of access equipment.

The Lanyard Attachment Monitoring system for Universal installation onto Mobile Elevated Work Platforms (MEWPS). The BT-6OF-4OO-4KT Fasten Tracker lanyard attachment monitoring system is available for all non insulated MEWPS. The system will deliver an immediate reminder warning alarm to the lift operator who is not safely attached to the designated anchor point prior to lift operation. An optional feature will log data of operator activities such as lanyard attachment, detachments, lift motion activity and deliver safety violation notifications. GUARD Data Delivery can provide various access of this data through bluetooth or also integrate into your existing Telematics Network for analysis on a laptop or mobile phone.
